Other than selling direct downloads online, for artists life goes on in the offline world. Musicians, filmmakers, writers, they all need to keep interacting with fans and followers on the streets, in concerts, presentations, exhibitions, etc. They also need to be imaginative in the real world and find ways to make their audience grow and possibly generate alternative incomes to keep their work going.

At KiteBit we follow that path. Our adaptive nature means that we try to match the needs of our users. So, thinking on the way CDs are sold in concerts, we ask ourselves the question ¿why not selling downloads physically too? ¿or tickets for events without intermediaries?.portada_joncols

That’s precisely what we are doing with the guys behind the magic festival Música de la Cala, an electronic music festival at cala Jòncols, halfway from the villages of Roses and Cadaqués, in the Natural Park of Cap de Creus. The organization is selling postcards specially designed for the ocasion. On the reverse of every postcard there is a song to download through a QR code which makes the postcard both a nice souvenir an a good way to get exposure for their music.

They asked us to also sell the tickets for the festival through KiteBit using QR codes. The absence of middle men will result in making the most for each of the products, both tickets and postcards, connecting the offline and online worlds without losing control of the creativity process.Screen Shot 2013-07-17 at 4.54.24 PM

That idea can be transported to different areas of creation not just music. There are millions of people abandoning physical formats so why not give them the option of getting precisely non physical formats?, for instance in a film premiere we usually see filmmakers selling dvds of their work so ¿why not selling also downloads directly? it’s cheaper, easier to carry and have more quality. Better for authors, better for fans.

It’s not just the quality of our work what will make our audience grow, to be imaginative is a must to reach out more public. With all accessible tools that we haveon just a computer there’s much room for experimentation. As the great Albert Einstein said:

“In the moments of crisis, imagination is more important than knowledge”.
